Under Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has discussed the differences between playing as an inverted winger and a wing-back.

The teenage England winger had no hesitation in stating which position he prefers when asked. In an interview with Chelsea's official website, he stated: "As a winger or a No. 10 type of player, I'd definitely say I like more aggressive positions. Obviously, I prefer to be straightforward in my approach and try to generate scoring opportunities for the team while also attempting to score some myself."

He continued, saying:

‘’I'm more at ease and feel more at ease while playing in that position. So knowing that I can go out there and be myself, be free, and try to create and score goals is definitely a wonderful situation to be in."

Hudson-Odoi explained the differences in his job as a wing-back at Chelsea: "However, playing at wing-back is unquestionably more defensive. At times, your mentality is more about guarding the goal than attacking it. You must constantly cover for someone in that position. For example, if the centre-back moves forward, you must cover in to ensure that you are not caught off guard."

Hudson-Odoi explains what a wing-back does at Chelsea.

"There are times in a game when I'm playing wing-back and I'm looking forward and thinking I can go forward here," Hudson-Odoi said of his defensive responsibilities at Chelsea. "But then I know, just in case, if I do and we lose the ball and it's a counter-attack, the run back is very far."

He continued, " "As a result, you may want to remain at home on occasion. It depends; there are always different circumstances in the game when I believe I can get ahead here and create a chance or even score, but it's the other way around, and it all depends on how the scenario plays out."Hudson-Odoi, on the other hand, attributes his entire development as a player to his time as a wing-back.

"I believe it has improved my defensive capabilities. Playing wing-back is more defensive-minded, so you have to judge when to lunge in for a tackle rather than just going in recklessly, or make sure you're in the right position when covering for a team-mate, or if you're one-on-one with an attacker, you simply have to stand your ground and show him outside or inside where there are more bodies."

He came at this conclusion:

‘’For me, it's definitely brought a defensive side to my game, and it also helps with the pressing side and knowing how to defend from the front, especially if you're playing higher up the pitch. As a result, it's unquestionably good."

This season, Hudson-Odoi has appeared in 25 games for the Blues, scoring three goals and assisting on five occasions.
